3D facial restoration technology

  • ÀÔ·ÂÀÏ: 2014-03-07

In 2011, 'Oegyujanggak Uigwe,' or records of the state rites of Joseon Dynasty returned to Korea from France after 145 years. By accessing the National Museum of Korea's web site, we can experience virtual reality contents that three-dimensionally reconstructed 'Uigwe for the State Funeral of Queen Jangryeol.' By three-dimensionally reconstructing cultural assets, the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea can more closely approach citizens, while preparing for possible disappearances of cultural assets by obtaining three-dimensionally scanned drawings of the cultural assets in advance. ETRI has developed 'multi-view image based 3D facial reconstruction technology.' This technology will enable creation of game characters with your own face or production of animated films with children's faces as main characters. Moreover, this technology will enable more precise orthodontic treatments through 3D scanning by comparing the simulations before and after the treatments. We will introduce new 3D scanning technologies used in our daily lives.
