In a video clip of recently introduced Google car, a blind person goes to a restaurant
and returns home in a self-driving Google car. The Google car ran 460,000 kilometers in
Nevada, U.S. after solving problems related to road regulations and insurance. Self-
driving vehicle is a fusion of various technologies in cars, cameras, artificial intelligence
and communications. Major global automobile makers and telecommunications
companies are absorbed in developing unmanned vehicles. Led by Seoul National
University's College of Engineering, South Korea has also succeeded in development of
unmanned vehicle under the industry-academic cooperation. Hyundai Motor Co.,
Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute as well as Korea Advanced
Institute of Science and Technology have earned various patents on self-driving vehicle
technologies and kicked off developing vehicles completely capable of driving
autonomously. We take a look at the technology of unmanned vehicle which already
succeeded in a trial ride. And we predict if this can replace cars of the future.
